The 54th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta runs October 3–11, 2026 — nine days of mass ascensions, glowdeos, and more than 500 balloons over the Rio Grande valley. Two weeks out: do the deep work
Deep clean the guest room and guest bathroom first, while there’s still time to fix what you find — the slow drain, the burned-out lamp bulb, the towel bar that’s been loose since spring. Wash duvets and mattress pads, flip or rotate the mattress, and let the room air out.
This is also the moment to deal with end-of-monsoon dust, which settles on ceiling fans, blinds, baseboards, vents, and window tracks all summer. The EPA’s guidance on improving indoor air quality comes down to removing the source and ventilating — both worth doing before your house holds twice as many people as usual.

One week out: the rooms guests actually judge
Guests forgive a cluttered garage. They remember the bathroom. Give the guest bath the detailed pass — grout lines, shower glass, the base of the faucet, the toilet hinges — and stock it like a hotel: fresh towels in one obvious spot, a new bar of soap, a spare roll where it can be found without asking.
The kitchen matters almost as much, because Fiesta guests hover there between sessions. Clear a fridge shelf for their things, degrease the stovetop and oven front, and reset the counters. In the living room and entry, hit the eye-level glass and any upholstery that holds pet hair.
Fiesta week: your mornings start at 4:30 a.m.
Here’s what first-time hosts underestimate: Dawn Patrol lifts off before sunrise, so guests are up, caffeinated, and out the door in the dark — then back mid-morning, then often out again for evening glows. October mornings on the mesa run chilly, so set up a coffee station the night before, stack extra blankets where guests can grab them, and give the front entry a landing zone for jackets, chairs, and cocoa thermoses. A ten-minute nightly reset of kitchen and bathrooms keeps the whole week from snowballing. - Fresh linens on the guest bed, extra blanket folded at the foot
- Cleared closet space with real hangers, plus an empty drawer
- Water glasses and a phone-charging spot on the nightstand
- Guest bath: clear counter, fresh towels, quick wipe of all surfaces
- Empty every trash can and run the dishwasher
- Sweep the entry and porch, and leave the light on for late arrivals
